The Anatomy of the Metroplitan Railway 4-4-0 Tank Locomotive by Peter Manning

The Metropolitan Class ‘A’ tanks, introduced in 1864 were the second in a whole series of Beyer Peacock locomotives built up to 1884 with the common characteristics of a Bissell truck and inclined cylinders; these were exported widely, notably to Australia, in various gauges and wheel arrangements. The best known today are probably the Isle of Man 2-4-0 tank locomotives, but a Met tank is preserved, albeit not in running order. Whilst specific to the Metropolitan Railway locomotives, the drawings here will help anybody building any of this series of designs. 56 landscape format pages, full of drawings dimensioned for full size.
