Mack Trucks 1000 Mack. The Life (two volume set) by Grant Gadsby, Paul Livsey and Ed Mansell (the first 1000 Macks assembled in New Zealand)

Come with us and take a step back in time, to not so long ago, when Mack trucks ruled our highways. From the stock carriers of the South Island to the off-highway loggers of Kaingaroa, Mack trucks were seen hauling the biggest loads in every corner of our country.

These mighty machines have celebrated 50 years of service to Kiwis. Using our own collections as well as sourcing material from other top truck photographers, we have compiled the finest photographs of the first one thousand Mack trucks assembled at Motor Truck Distributors in Palmerston North for a one-off limited run book to commemorate the occasion,

Follow the 'lives' of these machines from brand new through subsequent owners to where their story ended, if it's ended at all. Although some have met their demise, some have been lovingly restored while others continue to earn their keep.

This book is a coffee table styled, hard covered, in full colour, two volumes of approximately 500 pages each.

This book was inspired by the Mack 1000 celebration in 1987, where these trucks were displayed and celebrated in pictures when they went into service. Over the years thousands of pictures of these Macks working from the Cape to Bluff throughout their lives were collected. The vision was to capture their life story into a book in pictures.

This book has focused on the Macks themselves. It is their life story in pictures. From all being "born" in Palmerston North, all shiny, ready for a life of work in front of them. They were loved by the lucky few that got to operate them and admired by the world they passed by. Many worked hard and ended being the parts for others to keep them going. Some had life cut short by accidents whilst others have lived a long life and are still working. Some have been restored and look like the day they went on the road by their original owners or people who have connected with Mack in New Zealand as children of the era or for many other reasons.

The layout of this book is by the truck number register as recorded by MTD (Motor Truck Distributors). The main picture is the first owner and every picture after that follows as it ages, either with one owner or through several owners. In total there are 10,000 pictures which are the author’s combined collections bolstered by photos from the suppliers, owners, drivers, their families, and all the Mack enthusiasts in the period of 1972 - 1987.

The memories are revisited and are here to stay forever in this hard copy edition in 2 volumes and 1,000 + pages

Mack. The Life - It is their life story in pictures.
