Komatsu in America by Arthur McNae

cover photo

North America is the market area most heavily dominated by one make of construction and mining equipment anywhere in the world.

This book is a story of how Komatsu began marketing in the USA and how they moved from their beginnings in 1965 to the present, when they have forty three dealers and several branches operating in North America.

This story is recounted from visits with dealers and their customers at a random selection of places which were located in areas that allowed the author to roughly circumnavigate the country.

The North American equipment market is so immense that even a relatively small percentage of the business translates to a lot of machines and is therefore a most important area to Komatsu's global business.

Komatsu stepped into the ring in 1965 to compete for a share of that market held mostly by Caterpillar, which had a well deserved reputation for making the highest quality equipment and providing the best backup service in the industry.

That Komatsu have reached the position they now hold in North America is an outstanding achievement, secured against the intimidating force of the American Legend.

Machinery people will be interested to read the answer to my standard question: "What made you choose to buy your first Komatsu?"
