Dave McWha worked in the heavy transport industry for many years and has created a photographic record detailing the repowering of heavy trucks in New Zealand between 1956 and 1972.
In the early days of the repowring work, the engine used were often ex-army war surplus imported from the Pacific Islands by Jack Tidd and Ray Vincent. The early trucks were petrol-powered and expensive to operate. The repowered engines were diesel, with greater horsepower and were more economical.
